Why A Spicy Jalapeño Margarita Is the Best Summer Cocktail
I’m not big drinker. But, I do love to host a dinner party. And, I do love jalapeños.
This cocktail is the perfect balance of spice and refreshing. It makes me feel like I’m on vacation. Perhaps because my favorite drink at Epcot is the jalapeño margarita in Mexico.
I actually haven’t tried many other drinks at Disney World, because this is my go to. Are you a fan of drinking around the world at Epcot? I can really only handle drinks in one country.
Tips for Making the Best Margarita
When I’m having dinner guests it’s so important to me to have everything as ready as possible before they arrive. I like to do this so I can actually socialize instead of running around preparing things while people are here.
It also helps because I can clean everything up before people arrive.
So, my timeline for making this drink is that I put the jalapeño slices in a glass jar or container of tequila in the morning, or even the day before. Then, 1-2 hours before I’ll be serving the drinks I juice the oranges and limes.
I don’t have a cocktail shaker (should I get one?) So, I use a protein shaker cup. It works so far, but isn’t the prettiest. The other things that are very helpful to have is a citrus juicer, and a small strainer.
I also cut lime wedges and extra jalapeño slices in advance and keep in a container in the fridge. If you don’t have an ice maker then make sure you make your ice cubes in advance as well.
Finally I set the glasses out. I also generally have a bottle of wine, some flavored seltzers, a pitcher of water and wine glasses set out. This way guests can easily help themselves in case they can’t handle the heat of my spicy margaritas!
What to Serve with Jalapeño Margarita
I first came up with this recipe when I was making my favorite fish taco recipe. Fish tacos also remind me of being on vacation.
I had extra jalapeños and lime, and it was one of the first really warm late spring days. So, we were planning to eat outside for the first time of the year. After a long New England winter, that felt really festive.
The makeshift margarita I made that night, which couldn’t entirely be called a margarita has morphed into this go-to spicy margarita recipe.
All that being said, in my opinion fish tacos and jalapeño margaritas go hand in hand! I can hardly have one without the other!
If I’m not wanting to actually drink, I sub seltzer for the tequila to make a mocktail. I’ve also added a splash of jalapeño limeade from Trader Joe’s to the mocktail which is delicious as well.
So, give this summery cocktail a try. I highly recommend making these easy, healthy fish tacos with mango slaw for a festive dinner.
